Dr. Lucy reviews the popular sandal trends of 2015 and gives helpful hints to have style but stay comfortable.

Trend # 1: Chunky
If you are going for a heel, make it chunky. Broad heels and wedges are hot this summer. Good news for your feet. The more surface are the shoe contacts with the ground, the more evenly your weight will be distributed across your foot. Though we all love stilettos indulge in this trend, your feet will thank you.

Trend #2: Platform
The 70’s are calling and we asked them to stay. Broad strait-lined platforms are back. These can be tricky. Make sure to try these on in the store and do a few laps to make sure you are comfortable walking in these. If they do not have enough of a rocker built into the sole you may look like a marching solder trying to maneuver in these. Once again, the platform is a foot friendly trend that evenly distributes weight across your foot.

Trend #3: Gladiator
Strappy and stringy, you can lace these shoes all the way to your thigh! Typically a flat sandal with criss-crossing laces, these sandals may not be a go-to look for everyone. First can we say tan lines? Multiple thin straps often irritate the skin and the thin soles provide little support. Great for the run way, but wouldn’t wear them to Summerfest.

Trend #4: Comfort
Thick soles with broad straps mixed with a cork midsole. Yes please. This is a sandal trend of 2014 that we are happy to see stay for 2015. Also referred to as the ugly sandal trend, these shoes put comfort first. The built in arch support and shock absorption material make these shoes the everyday all-day kind of sandal.
