Milwaukee Foot and Ankle Doctor explains what is wrong with Kelly Ripa’s foot.

Kelly Ripa’s Broken Foot Reveals Congenital Deformity

Kelly Ripa is always a STAR. Even after breaking her foot, she wobbles out in crutches with one foot in a boot and the other sporting a beautiful heel. Nothing can knock this girl down… well except for the weight she accidently tripped over.

Kelly was in a dance class when during a jumping move; she came down and landed on a weight. Hearing and feeling the foot pop, she was rushed off to the doctor where they found multiple fractures. Fractures were not the only thing they found! Kelly was also diagnosed with a calcaneonavicular coalition.

A tarsal coalition means that two bones in the foot are inappropriately joined together. In Kelly’s case it is the calcaneus and the navicular. This is not relatively uncommon. Some people have symptoms or pain starting in adolescence or their early teens. This is one of the leading causes of painful flatfeet in children and young adults. When painful, the treatment is often surgical. Luckily for Kelly she has not any pain associated with this deformity.

Though the coalition was an incidental finding and does not require treatment, she will need to be in a boot for up to six weeks. She is already protesting her treatment, but even superstars can overcome the fact that broken bones take time to heal.
