Why does my child walk on their toes? Should I be concerned?
Toe walking, or children walking on the ball and toes of their foot is very common. It is often seen when babies first being walking. Kids walking on their toes can be idiopathic – meaning the cause is unknown – or could be one of the first signs of a neuromuscular disorder such as cerebral palsy, autism, or muscular dystrophy. If children have been toe walking for more than a year, or have not outgrown it by age 5, it needs to be evaluated by a podiatrist.
