The idea that a bunion that is removed, or corrected with surgery, will always come back is a myth. We believe this myth started many years ago when the surgery to correct a bunion wasn’t good enough. Keeping a bunion from coming back has mostly to do with how it is corrected in the first place. The procedures that we are able to do now prevent 99% of bunions from reoccurring. Fortunately for our patients, all of the Doctors here at Milwaukee Foot Specialists have the expertise and experience of successfully correcting all kinds of bunions.
Two things that can be done to prevent a bunion reoccurrence are regularly wearing shoes with good support, and wearing custom foot orthotics. We highly recommend orthotics after bunion surgery to keep the foot in the proper alignment.
