I had a cortisone shot for my heel pain in the past, and it did not work. How can you help me?
A cortisone shot reduces inflammation of the plantar fasciia, which helps it to heal. This helps 90% of the patients we see with heel pain. For that other 10%, we offer other treatments, including extracorporeal shock wave therapy, or ESWT. Shockwave therapy focuses intense sound waves on the injured area, promoting blood flow and healing. It is also possible that something other than plantar fasciitis may be causing your pain. We can perform a simple test in our office – a diagnostic ultrasound – that will help us get to the bottom of your pain. An ultrasound is very comfortable and non-invasive, yet accurate. We will be able to see if your pain has another source, such as a heel spur, nerve entrapment, or fat pad atrophy. This test has immediate results and is 1/20th the cost of an MRI.
